Introduction to Chinese Taoist Talismans

1、 Talisman is a technique belonging to the mountains among the five techniques of Taoism in China – mountain, medicine, destiny, physiognomy, and divination. It relies on various texts, symbols, patterns, mnemonics, and divination
Praying for blessings in various ways is called talismans.

2、 The main components of Taoist symbols are:
Fu Tou: The opening of a talisman is the most important, just like the eyes of a human being;
Fudan: It is the essence of a Fudan;
Fu Jiao: There are many variations in Fu Jiao, depending on the purpose of the talisman itself.

3、 The four key techniques of talismans:
Fu: It is a book symbol representing official documents and laws in the spiritual realm;
Mantra: It is a spell that represents the code of the spiritual realm, the call to chant, and the persuasive effect;
Seal: refers to handprint, seal, representing the authority and seal of the spiritual realm;
Dou: It refers to the Step Gang Dou, which is divided into different visible steps such as the Five Elements, Seven Stars, Eight Trigrams, etc., representing different functions.

4、 The meaning of talismans:
What is a talisman? The so-called talismans refer to the abbreviated form of “talismans” used in Taoism as “runes and mantras”.
According to the Book of Rites and Writing in the Book of Dao Fa Huiyuan, it is said: “When talismans are used, they are combined and believed. When my god is combined with another god, and my qi is combined with another’s qi, the god is invisible and forms in talismans. This work corresponds to another, and this confusion corresponds to another spirit.” It is also said that “talismans are a combination of yin and yang, and can only be used for sincerity and mutual benefit in the world. The spirit is attached, and the gods and gods are interdependent, so a paper with a false size of 3 is also used.
Human beings exist in the universe, and birth, aging, illness, and death are inevitable. In order to eliminate disasters, pray for peace, and live a happy marriage, we accumulate experience, explore and analyze, and synthesize day by day, and even need to give birth to profound philosophical methods (talismans). This is also the meaning of the existence of talismans.

5、 The transmission of talismans:
Talismans were widely used in ancient times, and Taoist Zhang Tianshi can be said to be the ancestor of talismans. 中国道教符咒简介

符咒是中国道教五术–山、医、命、相、卜中的属山之术，它凭借着种种文字、符号、图案、口诀、指决等等方式祈福于人，故称之为符咒。

道符的主要构成部分有:
符头:符咒开笔最为重要，就如同人的眼睛一般;
符胆:为一道符的精华所至;
符脚:符脚变化很多，全看此道符本身用途而定。

符咒的四大要诀:
符:就是书符，代表灵界公文和法规;
咒:就是咒语，代表灵界密码与歌诵号令、说服作用;
印:就是手印、印章，代表灵界的权威和印信;
斗: 就是步罡斗，分五行、七星、八卦等不同显步，代表不同作用。

符咒的意义:
什么是符咒?所谓符咒，即是道家所用的“符文咒训”的简称“符咒”。
按<<道法会元>>书符笔法云:“符者，合也，信也。以我之神合彼之神，以我之气合彼之气，神无形，而形于符。此作而彼应，此惑而彼灵。”又说:“符者，阴阳契合也，唯天下致诚相能用之。精神相附，神神相依，所以假尺寸3之纸也。
人类存于宇宙间，生、老、病、死在所难免，为了消除灾厄、祈求平安、生活婚姻幸福，逐日积月累积经验、探索分析、综合，以至需生玄哲法(符咒)，这也是符咒存在的意义。

符咒的流传:
符咒在古代应用很广，道家张天师可以说是符咒的始祖。历史上能达上乘符咒水平者很多，如姜牙、鬼谷子、孙膑张子房、韩信、袁天罡、李淳风、诸葛亮、刘伯温、太乙真人等。最具代表的古籍有<<万法归宗>>、<<风阳府江湖法术总集>>、<<辰州符咒大全>>、<<祝由十三科>>
